Our first child is due this July. Like a lot of new parents, we started trying to buy a few things that would last — and ideally, that were made closer to home.
That turned out to be surprisingly hard. A label said “Made in USA” on one page and “imported” on another. A brand with an all-American name manufactured entirely overseas. Marketing copy shouted “designed in California” and said nothing about where the product was actually made.
We didn't want a louder marketing claim. We wanted someone to check.
So we built the thing we couldn't find
The Made Standard is a directory where every brand is reviewed by a person against the federal “all or virtually all” Made-in-USA standard — and where we show our reasoning, honestly, on every listing. If we haven't verified something, we say so.
We later added a companion: The Trusted Standard, for the baby and kids brands parents trust worldwide for safety and quality, wherever they're made. Two honest answers to two different questions.
