AS/NZS ISO 8124 is the joint Australia–New Zealand standard for toy safety, aligned with the international ISO 8124 series. It sits under Australia's consumer product safety framework, which lets the ACCC impose mandatory safety standards and ban unsafe goods. The parts cover mechanical and physical properties, flammability, and migration of certain elements.
What it does not mean
Like EN 71, a claim of AS/NZS ISO 8124 compliance does not reveal who tested the toy or against which parts. It also does not cover every children's product: cots, prams and child car restraints are governed by separate mandatory standards in both countries.
