EN 1400 & EN 14350

Toys have EN 71; the things a baby sucks or drinks from have standards of their own. EN 1400 covers soothers and dummies, and EN 14350 covers drinking equipment — bottles, teats, cups and straws — under the General Product Safety Directive. They exist because a nipple or spout in a mouth is a higher-risk article than a rattle, with its own requirements for small-part detachment, tear resistance and restricted substances.

What it does not mean

These are product-standard series, so a claim that a bottle meets EN 14350 does not tell you who tested it or which part it was assessed against. They also do not cover breast pumps or baby food, which sit under separate rules.
